Thursday GOP debate is last before Iowa caucuses

Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich have stepped up their attacks against each other.

Several of the hopefuls who are gunning for the GOP nomination for president in 2012 will meet for the final debate before the Iowa caucuses on Thursday night.

Some of the Republican presidential candidates are squeezing in campaign events before participating the televised debate in Sioux City, Iowa.

The all-important caucuses are scheduled for Jan. 3.

The debate, scheduled for 9 p.m. EST Thursday, is sponsored by Fox News and the Iowa Republican Party.

Earlier Thursday, Rick Santorum is set to meet with voters in Rockwell City, Sac City and Holstein, Iowa.

Newt Gingrich will be in Fort Dodge, Iowa, and Rick Perry will be in the Iowa town of Le Mars.
