(WJLA) - The sun let loose a massive solar flare on Tuesday, pushing back a Wallops Island rocket launch yet again.

According to the Capital Weather Gang, the enormous flare was classified as X-class, which is the strongest type of flare possible.

Officials say that the geomagnetic storm that usually accompanies flares of this size ranks a 3 on its 1-5 scale.

It's the first solar flare of 2014. The launch of an Antares rocket in Virginia had already been pushed back a day due to cold weather.

Radio communication is among the many things that can be disrupted by a solar flare, and it's not known when the launch will take place.
