SPRINGFIELD, Va. (WJLA) - A 41-year-old woman was shot and killed inside a Franconia home on New Year's Day, and authorities have charged a man who may be connected to the death.

Fairfax County Police say that officers responded to a report of shots fired at about 6 p.m. Wednesday in the 7100 block of Healy Drive in Springfield. When they arrived, they found Serena Hansken-Vierimaa dead of an apparent gunshot wound.

Aaron Vierimaa, who wasn't injured in the shooting and lives at the same address, was charged with obstruction of justice. No one has been charged directly in connection with the woman's death.

Instead, authorities are currently classifying Hansken-Vierimaa's death as suspicious. The front door of their home is now boarded up, and neighbors say they didn't hear the commotion at the house.

However, some did say that they received an automated call from authorities telling them to stay inside their homes.

Anyone with more information is asked to call 703-691-2131.
