Senior Department of Defense officials, including Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel, laid a wreath Tuesday morning at the U.S. Navy Memorial in honor of the victim's of Monday's shooting at the Washington Navy Yard.
Hagel was joined by numerous defense officials and D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray at the solemn wreath laying, which was held in remembrance of the victims.
"This is a tragic day for the Department of Defense, the national capital area, and the nation," Hagel said in a statement Monday.
The Navy Memorial is located on Pennsylvania Avenue Northwest between 7th and 9th streets. It's directly west of the Archives-Navy Memorial Metro station.
Flags will fly at half staff nationwide through Friday night in remembrance of the 12 victims who were killed.
