Even with his tail wagging, Mason may not look like a miracle. But make no mistake: He's an incredibly tough tornado survivor.
On April 27, Mason was hiding in a Birmingham, Ala. garage when the storm picked him up and blew him away.
His owners couldn't find him and had just about given up when they returned Monday to sift through the debris and found Mason - emaciated and badly injured with two broken legs but waiting for them on the front porch.
"For an animal just to show up on someone's porch after this time was pretty remarkable, especially with the condition he's in," said Phil Doster of the Birmingham-Jefferson County Animal Control Shelter.
Mason's owners tearfully asked the local animal shelter to take him because they're not able to care for him while they try to piece back their lives.
Now, a local vet is going to help Mason by donating the orthopedic surgery the dog needs to walk again.
The vet hopes to operate Friday and get the precious puppy back on a four-legged gallop towards recovery.
"For an animal to go through what he's gone through and not to be ugly, to be happy for any companionship is remarkable," said Doster. "We're honored to be part of his recovery."
