Washington's gay and lesbian community took a stand Thursday night, following a violent attack against a same-sex couple.
This year, the LGBT community has been the target of numerous attacks, increasing 67 percent since last year.
Members of the community and their supporters, along with city officials, came out to march and demand an end to the violence.
"Everybody should stand up and come together and say this is not tolerable," Police Chief Cathy Lanier says. "This is not going to happen in our community, and it sends a huge message and believe me criminals get that message!"
