Five months after he was arrested on charges of making terrorist threats, the mother of a Texas teenager insists that his son's Facebook comments about shooting kindergarten students was sarcastic.
Justin Carter, an Austin, Texas teenager, remains on suicide watch while sitting in solitary confinement. Court documents say that Carter, 19, posted that he was so "messed up in the head" that he was going to shoot up a school.
"I think I'ma shoot up a kindergarten and watch the blood of (the) innocent rain down and eat the beating heart of one of them," Carter's post read.
CNN says that not long after discovering the post through an anonymous tip, the young man was arrested at his workplace. He was charged with a felony count of making a terroristic threat.
"We honestly assumed that once the police spoke to him they would understand that this was just a joking comment that he made and that it wasn't serious," Justin's mother, Jennifer, told CNN.
Carter's threat was suffixed with the acronym "LOL," which stands for laughing out loud.
His case has not yet come to trial.
