Fairfax County to manage deer hunt

Fairfax County residents can hear more tonight about how authorities plan to control the deer population.

The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at the Mason Government Center in Annandale.

The deer controlling program, starting next month, will allow hunters - both shotgun and archers - to apply for a lottery to participate in a series of managed hunts.

Ten members of the Fairfax County SWAT team will be used during nightime controlled hunts for deer in eight county parks.

These hunts are separate from managed bow and shotgun hunts that are done by citizens chosen by county officials via a lottery system.

Fairfax County officials say the overpopulation of deer will be thinned out in Wakefield Park, off Braddock Road and the 495. Citizens will be informed during public meetings like tonight.

The meeting will be held at the Mason District Government Center, 6507 Columbia Pike, Annandale, Va. 22003 from 7-9pm
