(WJLA) - A Massachusetts teenager is on a crusade against Apple to have what she thinks an offensive definition of the word "gay" eliminated from the company's dictionary.
Becca Gorman, a 15-year-old Sudbury, Mass. Teenager, was doing research for a project last week, WCVB in Boston reports, when she came across a curious definition for gay in the her MacBook's build-in dictionary.
The third definition for gay, she said, was "foolish; stupid." WCVB says it gave an example sentence that read, "Making students wait for the light is kind of a gay rule."
"Even with your addition of the word informal, this definition normalizes the terrible derogatory twist that many people put on the word 'gay,'" Gorman, whose parents are lesbians, wrote in a letter to Apple CEO Tim Cook.
Gorman says she got a call from Apple about an hour later with a promise that they would look into the definition, WCVB says.
