The search continues Thursday for the gunman who shot and killed a Howard University sophomore outside a Mount Rainier apartment.
Alonzo Guyton, a member of Howard's football and baseball teams and the U.S. Marine Drum and Bugle Corps, was found shot and killed Tuesday in the 4200 block of Kaywood Drive in Mount Rainier.
"He was the kind of person that, if we went out to eat, (he would) pay for everyone every time," Jordan Taylor, Guyton's friend, said.
Mount Rainier Police spent Wednesday night patrolling the large apartment complex where Guyton, 24, was shot. Friends describe him as a gentle and caring soul.
"He greeted me every time," another friend, Kyle Burton, said. "(He was) passionate about what he did."
"We deeply regret the untimely death of this promising young man who was very active at Howard and well loved by his peers, faculty and the staff who worked closely with him," Howard University said in a statement. "We extend our condolences and prayers to his family, friends and those who knew him."
Police continue to hunt for leads and suspects in the murder. Authorities suspect the crime may have occurred during a robbery gone bad.
