Prince George's County police are investigating a murder-suicide that took the life of a man and woman in Laurel Sunday.
On Sunday about 7 p.m., officers responded to the 14100 block of Bramble Court for reports of a shooting.
When they arrived, they found Aeris Lashay Beard, 19, of the 11200 block of Basswood Terrace, and Adam Clayton Owsley II, 21, of the 14100 block of Bramble Court, suffering from gunshot wounds.
Both were pronounced dead on the scene.
Investigations determined that Owsley shot Beard before taking his own life.
Beard was a sophomore at Coppin State, according to her family. She wanted to be a nurse and had assistant nursing offers coming in.
Her ex-boyfriend Owsley, worked at Goddard Space Center and was in the National Guard.
The two had been in a three-year relationship, but that ended more than a year ago, according to the family.
They shared a 2-year-old son, Dewayne.
Beard went to Owsley's apartment over the weekend so they could go shopping for their son, her family said.
For reasons unknown to both families, police say Owsley shot Beard and then turned the gun on himself. His family says he was expecting another child.
The day before the shootings, Beard posted a message on Facebook saying one day he was going to get fed up.
Now the focus is on their son they left behind.
"He needs both of his families," the family said. "Combined he will be taken care of. Everybody is going to be there for support."
