During an appearance on CBS's Face the Nation, former vice-presidential hopeful and current House Budget Committee chairman Paul Ryan said there are "more effective ways" of replacing "Obamacare" than threatening to shut down the government.
"Look - we all, Republicans, want to repeal and replace Obamacare. With the government shutdown, so to speak, we're talking about discretionary spending, government agency budgets, but it doesn't affect entitlements," he said.
Instead of a "swinging for the fences", the Republican representative from Wisconsin said that the party should vote to delay parts of the sweeping health care overhaul.
