(WJLA) - The Naval Academy's football team will take the field on Saturday, but every other student athlete on the Annapolis campus will be shut out of competition.
The school announced Wednesday that all varsity and club sports outside of Saturday's Navy/Air Force game has been canceled due to the government shutdown.
Department of Defense officials announced late Wednesday that both the Navy/Air Force game and Army's match-up with Boston College would go on as scheduled. However, other events, including soccer games, cross country meets and a litany of other events, will not happen.
The Colorado Springs Gazette reports that a $230,000 gift from an unidentified donor will cover the expenses for Air Force to travel from Colorado to Annapolis to play the Midshipmen.
