McDonnell donor cooperating with investigators

A major political donor and his company have been cooperative with federal prosecutors for several months in the public corruption investigation of Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell (R), The Washington Post reports.{ }

Jonnie Williams Sr., the chief executive of Star Scientific, a dietary company, has turned over personal financial and corporate records and given interviews, providing firsthand accounts of luxury gifts and tens of thousands of dollars given to McDonnell and his family.

Last week, McDonnell said he has repaid nearly $125,000 in personal and business loans from Williams. The loans were reportedly repaid with personal assets, loans and help from family.

McDonnell also said he will return the gifts given to him by Williams, including a $6,500 Rolex. The governor said his daughter has returned a $10,000 engagement gift.

McDonnell has apologized for breaching the public's trust, but has repeatedly said he has broken no laws.
