Here's one of the latest unexpected consequences of the shutdown: A fox has made the White House grounds its home and no one is stopping it.
The fox appeared at the White House about two weeks ago. But because of the shutdown, groundskeepers have stopped trying to catch the elusive fox.
The fox, however, is only one of many animals that are running amok on the White House grounds, reports Obama Foodorama, the official blog about the White House food initiatives.
Those animals include squirrels, robins and blue jays, among others. The animals are feasting on First Lady Michelle Obama's prized garden.
The garden is also suffering because the shutdown mandates minimum maintenance. The vegetables and fruit are reportedly rotting on the vine.
