      Fannie Mae pays Treasury $11.6 billion in 2012

      In 2008, taxpayers spent $188 billion to rescue Fannie Mae -- and smaller sibling Freddie Mac -- from their exposure to risky loans that triggered the financial crisis. Last year, Fannie made record profits.
