Bill banning abortion approved by House Committee
The House Judiciary Committee has approved a bill by Arizona Republican Trent Franks to ban all abortions after 20 weeks, the Washington Post reports. Federal law currently bans most abortions after 24 weeks.
The bill, also known as the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, passed with a 20-12 vote, and will now move on to the House. Bill supporters insist that fetuses can feel pain as early as the 20th week of pregnancy.
“Knowingly subjecting our innocent unborn children to dismemberment in the womb, particularly when they have developed to the point that they can feel excruciating pain every terrible moment leading up to their undeserved deaths, belies everything America was called to be,” said Franks in a statement.
