JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) - U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez is laying out efforts to protect consumers' personal information.
The New Jersey Democrat is speaking at a Target store in Jersey City on Thursday, one of the year's busiest shopping days.
He says consumers should be better protected and retailers who fail to safeguard information should be held accountable.
Target announced this month that personal information was taken from nearly 40 million customers who used credit and debit cards at the store in one of the largest breaches of its kind.
Menendez is a member of the Senate banking committee.
