Less than a week after the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary, some lawmakers are calling for change when it comes to the safety and security of staff and students at schools across the country.
“I hope we will act. There would be no better tribute, no better source of consolation to the families that have lost loved ones,” said Sen. Joe Lieberman (I), Connecticut
Wednesday morning, House Democrats are expected to speak out in support of a bill banning assault magazines. President Obama is also said to be looking at the best way to tackle gun violence.
“He is actively supportive of Senator Feinstein's stated intent to revive a piece of legislation that would reinstate assault weapons ban,” said White House Press Secretary Jay Carney.
Republican Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell meanwhile says he's open to the idea of letting trained principals or teachers carry a gun.
"Especially now, I think that someone should be armed at all schools,” McDonnell said.
