(WJLA) - Does the idea of a zombie attack concern you?
If it does, rest assured that the Pentagon has your back.
According to a report, Foreign Policy magazine obtained documents that detail a lesser-known plan to protect Americans in the case of a zombie apocalypse.
The document, titled "CONOP 8888," is dated April of 2011 and says, in essence, that the Pentagon will use all necessary resources to protect "non-zombie humans" in the case of an outbreak of zombies.
"Because zombies pose a threat to all non-zombie human life, [Strategic Command] will be prepared to preserve the sanctity of human life and conduct operations in support of any human population -- including traditional adversaries," the plan's summary reads.
A disclaimer by the author indicates "this plan was not actually designed as a joke."
The plan goes so far as to caution officials about conducting test operations, for fear the public might mistake it for an actual emergency.
Some spokespersons say, though, that the idea of a zombie attack was used as a fictional scenario for training purposes that could be applied to a variety of potential situations.
