Rep. Joe Barton apologizes for nude photo: 'I am sorry I did not use better judgment'

U.S. Rep. Joe Barton, R-Texas. (U.S. House of Representatives)

WASHINGTON (Sinclair Broadcast Group) - The longest-serving member of Congress from the Lone Star State has apologized for a nude photo of him that surfaced on social media this week, according to The Texas Tribune.

"While separated from my second wife, prior to the divorce, I had sexual relationships with other mature adult women," said U.S. Rep Joe Barton, R-Texas. "Each was consensual. Those relationships have ended. I am sorry I did not use better judgment during those days. I am sorry that I let my constituents down."

Barton, who serves the 6th District of Texas, announced earlier this month he would seek re-election.

It is unknown how the photo got posted online.

"You're as aware of what was posted as I am," Barton told the Tribune. "I am talking to a number of people, all of whom I have faith in and am deciding how to respond, quite frankly."
