On Saturday, smoked meat lovers will celebrate the food that serves as the center of their world - bacon.
Since 2000, pork lovers around the world have celebrated National Bacon Day on the Saturday before Labor Day; this year, it falls on Aug. 31.
According to the Republic of Bacon blog, three Massachusetts graduate students came up with the idea in 2000 to celebrate their love of bacon.
While lovers of the meat nationwide will spend the day consuming as much bacon as they can handle, Ford is jumping into the fray as well. In conjunction with National Bacon Day, the carmaker is offering vinyl strips of bacon that can be attached to Ford Fiesta model.
Time magazine says that the bacon strips start at $78 plus installation, which is about $75 more than a typical pack of bacon to cook and eat.
"It's just awesome to drive down the road in a piece of bacon," Ford Fiesta marketing manager Liz Elser told Autoblog.
