Lyft to offer Taco Bell drive-thru detour with a free taco for passengers
ORANGE COUNTY, Calif. (WZTV) - Lyft announced a new partnership with Taco Bell on Tuesday to offer its customers an optional drive-thru detour, with plans to take it nationwide by 2018.
It's called Taco Mode. Customers can request a ride through Taco Bell's drive-thru on their way to another destination through the ride-sharing service's app.
Taco Mode boasts the "ultimate Taco Bell experience," which of course includes a free Doritos Locos taco, swag, custom in-car menu and a "tricked-out, taco-themed car."
Lyft said drivers are not required to participate but can opt-in if they're interested.
"We realized that for every person who has asked their Lyft driver to make a pit-stop at Taco Bell - and we've seen many - there are likely those who weren't sure if this was possible. With the advent of this fantastic partnership with Lyft, we will erase any lingering uncertainty and celebrate the ability to ‘ride-thru’ in Taco Mode," said Marisa Thalberg, chief marketing officer, Taco Bell Corp.
It's being tested this weekend, July 27-30, and Aug. 3-6 in Orange County, California, between 9 p.m. and 2 a.m.
Lyft plans to take feedback after testing in California and bring it nationwide by 2018.
"Taco Bell and Lyft are two like-minded brands at the forefront of technology and innovation," Lyft said in an online statement. "This extraordinary partnership infuses the culinary world into the ride-sharing cultural movement, making a late-night run for tacos more convenient - and fun - than ever."
