A 19-year-old member of the United States Marine Corps says he feels like he was just "doing the right thing" when he dropped back from the group he was running a 5K race with to encourage a 9-year-old boy to finish.

A photo of Lance Cpl. Myles Kerr dashing to the finish line with Boden Fuchs at the race, which was held in Charlevoix, Mich., has gone viral from the Seal of Honor Facebook page, garnering more than 200,000 likes and 57,000 shares.

Kerr tells ABC News, though, that he urged Boden to finish the race even though he wanted to give up.

"As a Marine, we try to reach out and help as much as we can," Kerr told ABC News. "I don't think I’m a hero. I was just trying to help."
