The town of Chapel Hill, N.C. is enacting a new law that will effectively ban any use of cell phones while driving.
WRAL reports that the ordinance, which goes into effect Friday, is the first ever ban of this type passed in the state.
Supporters of the ban tell the station that it will drastically cut down on distracted driving accidents in the town, which is home to the University of North Carolina.
But people who opposed the bill, which passed by a 5-4 margin according to WRAL, say that its ban on hands-free devices go too far.
