While the Washington area and people nationwide celebrate and coo over Mei Xiang's adorable panda cub at Smithsonian's National Zoo, the complete opposite has been declared about another animal.

After an online vote, the Ugly Animal Preservation Society has declared the blobfish as the ugliest animal on earth.

The British organization says that the blobfish blew away its competition, which included dung beetles, British bats and a species of lizard, by more than 10,000 votes.

According to FishBase, the blobfish is native to the coast of Australia and Tasmania and usually live between 2,000 and 4,000 feet below the ocean's surface. In 2012, The Daily Telegraph reported that the blobfish was facing extinction because of deep-sea fishing.
