WASHINGTON (WJLA) - Metropolitan Police Department detectives are looking for a man who allegedly sexually assaulted a woman next to an elementary school after she dropped her child off.

The assault of a 17-year-old woman happened Tuesday morning outside Maude Aiton Elementary School on 48th Place in Northeast Washington, officials say.

Sources say that the young mother was raped at gunpoint just hours after dropping her child off. Police sources also say that they're investigating the possibility that the suspect is a fellow parent at the school.

By all accounts, authorities believe that the victim did not know her attacker.

Authorities believe that the suspect approached his victim, pulled out a gun and forced her beneath a nearby bridge, where he sexually assaulted her at gunpoint. When the attacker left, sources say she ran to get help.

D.C. Public Schools officials refused to comment and referred all inquires about the assault to authorities. The victim, meanwhile, was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
