Yardfest kicks off Howard University's homecoming weekend with star-studded lineup (ABC7)

Hundreds of people from all across the country attended Howard University’s Yardfest on Friday.

The concert featured a star-studded lineup, with performers like Rick Ross, Tory Lanez, Wale and more.

“It’s a real honor. Just to be apart of possibly the most historically rich HBU that we got,” said Rick Ross.

Several actors also made a special appearance including Rotimi, from Power, and Howard alum Laz Alonso, from the movie Detroit.

“I love it it’s beautiful. Black is beautiful,” said Rotimi.

“I’m honorary. I’ve been a grand marshal for the parade, I’m going to support La La here tomorrow. La La Anthony is our Grand Marshal. Also a Howard Alum, everybody is in town this weekend. It’s a great weekend,” said Alonso.

On Saturday, Greene Stadium will take center stage.

Howard University will take on Morgan State University at 1 p.m.

Many are excited to watch Cam Newton’s little brother Caylin Newton, who has quickly become a star in his first year.

“This will probably be one of our biggest games. I’m pretty sure the student body will come out and support a lot,” said Tabrian Arnold, who is the assistant director of operations of athletics for the university.

The festivities will continue on Saturday with the parade and a tailgate, before the game.
