A 21-year-old woman, Anastacia Smith, was killed in a Friday morning accident on northbound Route 197 approaching Route 50 in Bowie.
Prince George’s County Police Spokesperson Cpl. Larry Johnson says a Gold Chevy Malibu hit the back of a Red Chevy Cobalt that was stopped at a red light. The Cobalt was forced into the southbound lanes of Route 197.
A third vehicle stopped at the light was also hit by the Malibu.
Smith was a passenger in the Cobalt.
The driver of the Cobalt and the driver of the third car were not seriously hurt.
The driver of the Malibu that hit the others is in critical, but stable, condition.
Police say alcohol and excessive speed were likely factors in the crash on the part of the offending driver, who has not been identified.
