Kimberly Carter found dead behind St. Mary's County home after alleged assault
St. Mary's County police have charged a man with second-degree murder in the death of his estranged wife, whose body was found in the backyard of a home in Great Mills.
Authorities say that 38-year-old Kimberly D. Carter was found dead early Tuesday morning after a fight inside the home between her estranged husband, James Mitchell Carter and another man.
Around 3:30 a.m., police say a man, who was visiting a woman at her home, was assaulted by another man who entered the house. The victim was naked at the time that police found him, officials say. The victim said the man who assaulted him fled shortly thereafter.
While searching inside and around the home, officials say they discovered Carter's body in the backyard. Her body was taken to the State Medical Examiner's office to determine a cause of death.
Police arrested James Carter, 46, of Lexington Park, Md. in connection with the case. Carter is charged with second degree murder, first degree assault, first degree burglary and second degree assault.
