Woman charged in attack on Metro bus driver

WASHINGTON (AP) - Police say a woman has been charged with attacking a Metro bus driver.

Metro spokesman Philip Stewart says the woman assaulted the bus driver when she boarded the X2 bus at Gallery Place in downtown Washington on Wednesday night. Stewart says the driver continued his route, but in the 3300 block of Benning Road, the woman went after the driver again as she was about to leave the bus.

Metro Transit and D.C. Police say this time, the driver defended himself, hitting the woman on the face.

Officers called to the scene arrested the 18-year-old woman and charged her with assault. The bus driver was not charged.

Police say it's not clear why the woman attacked the driver.
