An American woman traveling from Mexico City was arrested Saturday morning at Dulles Airport and charged with importing heroin.

Customs and Border Protection agents discovered that Nelly Davila, 39, was carrying a suitcase with more than seven kilograms (15-plus pounds) of a substance that field-tested positive for heroin, according to a statement released by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia.

At an estimated $200 per gram, seven kilograms (about 15 pounds) would be valued at $1.4 million.

Davila is an American citizen who lives in Mexico.

If convicted, Davila faces a maximum penalty of 40 years and a mandatory minimum of five years in prison, on charges of importing a schedule I controlled substance.

Davila was scheduled for a preliminary hearing and detention hearing at the federal courthouse in Alexandria Wednesday afternoon.
