“This is a great honor for our station,” said WJLA-TV General Manager Bill Lord. “It’s also well-deserved recognition for the dedicated professionals who work so tirelessly every day to create outstanding news content here. Our hats are off to them today.”
WJLA’s win for Best News Service was for reporter Jay Korff’s 7 On Your Side stories about a Prince George’s County neighborhood abandoned by the contractor before work was finished. Korff worked with WJLA producer Mary Kay Mallonee.
WJLA’s news partner WTOP also won three regional Edward R. Murrow awards in the Large Market Radio category.
WTOP won in the Breaking News category for “A Date With Sandy,” the Investigative category for “Metro Bus Crashes” and Sports Reporting for “Foosball Tourney.”
