White House Easter Egg Roll promotes childhood fitness

(WJLA) - Spoons and smiles saturated the South Lawn today, as kids of all ages joined in on Washington’s day-after-Easter tradition.

Woodbridge resident Faith Jones and her siblings were happy to be at the White House Easter Egg Roll:

“We were really excited this is like a once in a lifetime opportunity," said Jones.

The President and First Lady also got in on the action this morning, helping some of the youngest try to get across the finish line. This year’s theme, “Hop In to Healthy, Swing In to Shape,” ties in to Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move” campaign to promote a healthy lifestyle.

“I want to make sure kids know healthy eating and being active can be fun," said the First Lady.

The fun was easy to find, from the cast of characters (from actor Jim Carrey to Disney favorites) and story time spot to the healthy meals and sports. Each family attending had to get tickets through an online lottery, and many say they had been waiting years – hoping this day would finally come.

Elizabeth Henderson says sharing this with her family is like a dream come true: "It is just incredible, it's an iconic view and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity."
