Where to celebrate 2014 Annual National Night Out in D.C., Virginia, Maryland

      WASHINGTON (WJLA) - Residents and communities across the Washington, D.C. metro region are planning to participate in the 31st annual National Night Out on Tuesday.

      From 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., neighborhoods across the country will join together with local police departments for an evening to learn about crime prevention efforts through events such as potlucks, ice cream socials, front porch vigils and more.

      ALEXANDRIA CITYPolice officers with the Alexandria City Police Department, McGruff the Crime Fighting Dog, the K-9 Unit, Motor Unit, Bike Patrol, the Crime Scene Mobile Lab and more will tour neighborhoods for National Night Out.

      Residents can join Major Merritt Bender of the Howard County Police Department, County Executive Ken Ulman, Howard County Council Vice Chair Courtney Watson, Councilpersons Greg Fox and Jen Terrasa, Senator Allan Kittleman, Howard County Fire and Rescue Services Chief William Goddard, Howard County Sheriff James Fitzgerald, Maryland State Police Lieutenant Shane Bolger and other officials at the official kickoff event hosted by Harper's Choice Community Association.
