Workers with Mosquito Joe of Southern Maryland say, lately, it seems like they’ve been spraying yards nonstop.

“People are just tired of having mosquitos and all sorts of insects in their yard and they want to be able to go outside and enjoy their backyard again,” said Eileen Weckesser, owner and manager of Mosquito Joe of Southern Maryland.

In New Carrollton, that isn’t the only issue. The Maryland Department of Agriculture says a West Nile Virus mosquito pool was found in the area.

“It happens every year, and about this time every year. So, it’s not incredibly astounding,” said Brian Prendergast, program manager for Mosquito Control with the Maryland Department of Agriculture.

For those who live in the area, it’s a little too close to home.

“Just knowing the next time I get bit by a mosquito, is that something?” said Jennifer Singleton, who hired Mosquito Joe of Southern Maryland to spray her yard.

The Department of Agriculture isn’t taking it lightly. Tuesday evening marks day three of responding. They are also asking people to empty any water holding containers, avoid mosquito infested areas, and use bug repellent.

“It’s just kind of unbearable, you want to make sure the kids are safe,” Singleton said.
