One of the hottest grocery store chains in America reportedly has its eye on its first location in the District of Columbia, according to the Washington Business Journal.
A spokesman for Wegmans said earlier this week that the chain, which has 81 stores in Virginia, Maryland and several other Mid-Atlantic states, says it's interested in opening one of its stores on the old site of the Walter Reed Army Medical Center.
According to the Journal's Rebecca A. Cooper, Wegmans and the District don't have a deal, but the company is trying to incorporate smaller, more urban-area friendly stores into its chain.
The original Walter Reed closed in July of 2011, when it moved operations to Bethesda.
The grocery store chain currently has local locations in Columbia, Crofton, Frederick, Lanham, Sterling, Fairfax, Gainesville, Fredericksburg, Leesburg and Woodbridge.
