Weather: Flood Watch in effect through Saturday for entire D.C. area

Weather: Flood Watch in effect through Saturday for entire D.C. area. (ABC7)

A Flood Watch is in effect through Saturday for the entire DC area and numerous river Flood Warnings are also in effect through most of the weekend. Today is looking like it will be the soggiest day of this current six day run of wet weather. We could see .75" to 1.50" across the area today with a total of 2-5" by the time our soggy run eases around noon Saturday.

A sloppy Friday morning rush with pockets of moderate to heavy rain just south of DC and around southern Maryland. Showers just about everywhere around the p.m. rush and heavy rain will likely fall into Saturday morning. Everyone should stay alert for rapidly rising water levels off the Potomac and area wide rivers and streams. High water levels and some moderate river flooding is forecast through the weekend. As drier conditions and the lower possibility of rain sets in for Sunday folks will be heading out more for recreation. Use caution in parks and any running trails near water.

Additionally, check basements for standing water, sump pumps and attics for water damage.

Today will remain on the cooler side in the 60s. Highs Saturday should be a touch warmer in the mid 70s Saturday, but we should finally see a little sunshine return Sunday with highs back into the mid 80s. Unsettled weather continues Monday through Wednesday of next week with afternoon storm chances and highs in the 80s. (Sneak peek at Memorial Day Weekend- overall dry with lower humidity and highs in the lower to mid 80s, slight chance of rain Sunday).
