Surveillance video has captured a man police believe is responsible for a series of carjackings targeting men over the age of 60 in Wheaton.

In addition to the video, police say they may have DNA to link the man to the crimes.

The attackers own blood, left in one of the cars from a cut from his own weapon, may help track him down, police said.

In less than a week there have been three carjackings, all of which occurred in the parking lot of the Westfield mall.

The most recent confirmed incident happened Sunday outside of Target.

The other two attacks happened in the same parking lot outside the Giant grocery store.

On each occasion, the attacker takes the men to a number of ATMs demanding cash.

Tuesday carjacking not related, police say

Meanwhile, Montgomery County Police say that a carjacking that took place at a Burger King on Veirs Mill Road early Tuesday morning was a crime of opportunity and not likely related to the previous crimes.

Police say that two suspects drew a handgun on people who had pulled up to enter the fast food restaurant in the 12200 block of Veirs Mill Road just after 1 a.m.

The suspects then got away with the vehicle, which has not been recovered.
