WATCH: Police destroy 62 ATVs and dirt bikes driven illegally in D.C.
WASHINGTON (ABC7) —
On Saturday, police destroyed 62 ATVs and dirt bikes they confiscated from people they say were driving them illegally in D.C.
D.C. Police say the vehicles were involved in "criminal offenses" or found abandoned. They were crushed into 14,180 pounds of recyclable metal at a contractor's lot in Maryland.
A report of dozens of ATVs and dirt bikes flying down K Street on June 25 in Northwest Washington was caught on camera.
D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser has discussed a program launched by Metropolitan Police in 2016 to identify riders of ATVs and dirt bikes. She says mothers should be concerned about turning these vehicles in before their kids are arrested riding one.
