Washouts impacting travel in some parts of Frederick County

Washouts impacting travel in some parts of Frederick County (ABC7)

Crews worked around the clock on Wednesday as they tried to prevent further damage caused by heavy rain on Route 180.

Water from the Catoctin Creek covered the road, causing it to erode on Tuesday night

Route 340 is being used as a detour.

“I thought here we go again,” said neighbor Don Henson.

Henson says a man even had to be rescued, when he lost control of his car on the flooded road.

Officials say that man was clinging to a tree when firefighters found him around 9:30 p.m.

Workers estimate that the gaping hole in the middle of the damaged road is roughly 8 to 10 feet deep and 150 feet wide.

“I don’t think you can stop mother nature, she’s going to do what she wants to do and we just have to learn to live with it and recover and we will,” said Henson.

A washout is also impacting the Brunswick line.

“There will be no Brunswick Line service at Martinsburg, Duffields, Harpers Ferry, or Brunswick stations. There will be limited service at Point of Rocks. Passengers should note that capacity will be limited versus normal Brunswick Line service. Not only do we have four less trainsets to operate, but three of the four trainsets that are stranded in Brunswick and Martinsburg are larger (5 or 6 car) trains. Passengers from Martinsburg should consider using MTA Commuter Bus #505 from Hagerstown and Frederick County passengers should consider MTA Commuter Bus #515 from downtown Frederick and Monocacy. In addition, the Metro option will be open starting at 5:00am Thursday morning,” said a spokesperson for the company.
