Mayor Vincent Gray hasn't publicly said how he'll vote on the living wage bill. But in an interview he gave to WTOP in 2010, Gray said he wants Walmart to pay workers $12 an hour.
In a Dec. 31, 2010 interview, Gray told WTOP that Walmart keeps their wages low "on the backs of workers" and that D.C. doesn't want low-quality jobs.
He says the big-box retailer should pay at least $12 an hour as well as benefits.
The living wage bill currently on the mayor's desk would require big retailers like Walmart pay $12.50 an hour. D.C.'s minimum wage is $8.25 an hour. Walmart has said it wouldn't go forward with several planned stores in the district if the bill is passed.
