Virginia students show appreciation for veterans

Just days before Veterans Day, local students are finding unique ways to show their appreciation.

Virginia schools are off{}Monday, so many children in schools near the Pentagon spent part of Friday showing appreciation, and{}coping with the fact that as military families, they sacrifice, too.

Nearly every child at Hoffman-Boston Elementary wrote a message of thanks.

The letters will be delivered to the 100 residents of the Washington VA Medical Center.

A few miles south at Mount Vernon Woods Elementary, the History Channel hosted "Take a Vet to School Day."

The Arlington children also learned that on any given night, there are 130,000 homeless veterans in America.{}The kids also held a fundraiser to benefit the homeless.
