RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Virginia is saying goodbye to the Verizon white pages.
The State Corporation Commission on Thursday granted the company's request to stop automatic delivery of its printed white page listings. The listings will be available online, and customers can request free printed or CD-ROM listings.
The business and government white pages and the yellow pages will continue to be delivered.
Verizon asked the agency in August to waive the requirement that it deliver the white pages.
Verizon Virginia president Robert Woltz Jr. says the move will save an estimated 1,640 tons of waste each year.
Virginia joins a handful of other states that have lifted the requirement to deliver the white pages since 2007.
