Virginia, Maryland National Guard soldiers due home Thursday

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) About 70 National Guard soldiers from Virginia and Maryland are heading home after serving in Afghanistan since December.

The soldiers returning Thursday are from Fort Belvoir's 29th Infantry Division. They returned to the states and a demobilization station one week ago in Indiana for health screenings and administrative tasks.

The members of the 29th Infantry Division were assisting NATO and its mission of developing Afghanistan's own national security forces.

The Virginia soldiers will return to their homes throughout the state. Most of the Maryland soldiers are from the Baltimore-Washington area.
