Video: Endangered deer gives birth to fawn
Front Royal, Va. (ABC7) —
An endangered Eld's deer gave birth to a fawn at the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute on Sunday.
The Smithsonian National Zoo says that the mother, Sienna, and the newborn fawn both appear to be doing well. The fawn is now nursing and will be given routine check-ups over the next few weeks to make sure she is growing normally.
While this is Sienna's second fawn, it is the first for father Duffy. This is the 145th Eld's deer fawn to be born at the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute since 1980.
