Eduardo Carino was just waking up when the minivan came crashing over a wall and down from the parking lot and into his apartment.
As he shook the dust out of his hair and eyes, he realized a Honda minivan had driven straight into the room occupied by his mother and 3-year-old sister.
"They just screamed because they were so scared," he says. "I thought It was an earthquake again. Another earthquake."
Fortunately it didn't hit them. But Eduardo says it was a matter of inches.
According to witnesses, the driver of this minivan was taking her child to school. She accidentally put it into drive instead of reverse. When she realized she was going over the edge, she grabbed her child and jumped out of the car.
"I don't know what happened. I can't remember to say anything," said the woman who witnesses identified as the driver.
Damage to the apartment is significant.
Eduardo Carino says it's something he and his family will not soon forget.
"I'm just glad my family is safe and that everybody else is safe," he says.
