Unseasonably cold Friday with chances of rain, snow tonight into the weekend

Winter weather advisory graphic, Friday, Dec. 8, 2017 (Eileen Whelan, ABC7)

Get the heavy coats ready with unseasonably cold air settling in. Highs Friday will only reach the low 40s. Skies will be overcast, so no need for the sunglasses. StormWatch7 continues to track a coastal system that is looking more likely to bring parts of the Washington, D.C. area a mix of rain and snow.

A few rain showers may start as early as mid-afternoon over St. Mary's County, Maryland. Late Friday night, a mix of rain and snow may develop over southern Maryland, so keep your StormWatch7 handy.

Road temperatures will likely stay above freezing, but there may be a few slick spots, so drive with extra caution. The rain/snow may shift farther west by Saturday morning, so even here in the DMV, you may experience a light wintry mix Saturday morning. Any accumulations with this system look to be over southern Maryland with up to two inches possible.

Skies clear from west to east Saturday with a cold and blustery Sunday ahead. Highs will only reach the upper 30s, but with gusty northwest winds, it will feel like the teens in the morning and 20s in the afternoon. Next week remains unseasonably cold.

TONIGHT: Cloudy & cold. Rain/snow mix over southern MD.

Lows: 29-34

SATURDAY: AM rain/snow mix. Any accumulation over southern MD. Clearing west to east.
