BALTIMORE (AP) - The University of Maryland School of Medicine is announcing a funding consortium to pay for preclinical development of an HIV/AIDS vaccine candidate.
Gov. Martin O'Malley and Dr. Robert Gallo, who founded the Institute of Human Virology at the university, will make the announcement Thursday in Baltimore with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. They will be joined by representatives of the funding consortium, companies that are participating in the research and the research team that developed the vaccine candidate.
The funding consortium includes U.S. government agencies.
