U.S. drones may patrol D.C. region

Drones now used for reconnaissance missions in Afghanistan and to take out Al-Qaeda leaders in Pakistan could someday fly over the Capital Beltway.

The use of drones in our region became public last week, after the{ }Federal Aviation Administration released a list of agencies permitted to use them.

One of those agencies is Homeland Security, but Fairfax County Police Chief David Rohrer tells WTOP the unmanned aircraft could be used to spot traffic problems and send the information back to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

Some members of Congress say using drones could constitute an invasion of privacy.
